Today in American lit some of the class presented their poem analysis. We had to write two themes and three things we learned. My favorite out of the three was “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost. Essentially the poem was about how things are more valuable in the beginning and ‘good’ things don’t last forever. A theme was “Enjoy the moment before it’s gone.” The author connects gold which is a very valuable item to nature. For a personal connection one can connect it to relationships or friendships in life.

Today we were put into groups of 4. We were given a group assignment to analyze a poem. Each group member got separate tasks, I was the summarizer. Today we read and analyzed the poem as a group to get started. The whole project is due Thursday.

10/17

In American lit we had to write 7 paragraphs analyzing the poem we read yesterday called “Out, Out-“. The poem was about a boy who was doing the work of a grown man who got his hand cut off by a saw then later dying. We had to analyze the setting and the personification of the saw. We also had to analyze the contrast between the saw and the setting. I only got to the fourth paragraph but I still feel like I did really good.

In American lit. the topic was tragedies. As a class we analyzed the poem ‘Out, Out-‘ by Robert Frost. The poem was about a boy who was doing the work of a grown man who got his hand cut off by a saw then later dying. The theme we got from the poem was “Anything can happened in the blink of an eye”.

In today’s lesson we topic was unpopular opinions. During the lesson we learned 3 types of claims. Claims to agree, claims to disagree and, claims to compromise. We were given an unpopular opinion and has to right a claim that agrees, disagrees and one that has a compromise.

10/10

In American lit we practiced coming up with our own claim on a topic then provided evidence to support them. The topic was the ‘unknown’. One of my claims were “It’s valuable to explore the unknown because it can give you new experiences.” My supporting statement was “Trying things you’ve never done before can broaden your horizon and give you a new perspective on things.”What I learned from todays lesson is a claim always needs supporting evidence to back it up. It’s also good to have about 5 claims, counter claims, and pieces of evidence so you have more than enough for your essay.

10/3

Today in American lit we continued our classwork from yesterday. We had to find 4 claims from each passage and write them down. We also had to define 6 words from each passage. We worked independently today.

I’m American lit we discussed ‘claims’ in an argumentative essay. We read two passages on driverless cars, one was against and one was for it. We then talked about the topic and had to find what each authors position was. Overall the lesson wasn’t boring and neither was the topic.
