In American lit me, 3 other students and Mr. Rease read aloud act one of the book Fences. I played rose. Act one wasn’t too long and was entertaining. At the end of class the rest of the class analyzed the characters and answered some questions.

In American lit. Mr. Rease introduce the book fences to us. We went over the introduction then answered some questions. In the questions we had to connect the title ‘Fences’ to physical and metaphorical fences in our lives. Tomorrow we will be reading act one of the book

In the first part of American lit. we took the Rockpile assessment. After lunch we were given an assignment for today and tomorrow. The assignment is about 4 kids from different countries and how they get to school. We had to watch a film to answer for the assignment.

There was a sub today. We had to complete a worksheet about the characters of the Rockpile.

In American lit we were assigned characters from the short story The Rockpile by James Baldwin. The character we got we had to analyze them by using the STEAL method.  S- speech, T- thoughts, E-effect, A- actions, L- ‘looks’ I got sister McCandless as my character.

Today in American lit we read the short story The Rockpile by James Baldwin. It’s about two half brothers Roy and John that live with their mom and dad and two younger siblings across from the Rockpile. The Rockpile is forbidden from in their home because of all the crime and violence that takes place. But one day Roy managed to sneak out to go to the Rockpile while John covers for him. When at the Rockpile Roy gets hit in the head and gets a gash in his head. John runs to get his mom to inform her while they worry about the father finding out.

I’m American lit. we answered questions to the poem we read 10/30. A lot of the questions were questions that make you have to visualize and use context clues to answer. The questions weren’t hard.

In American lit. we analyze and annotated a poem by Lawrence Ferlinghetti called “Constantly Risking Absurdity”. The author uses an extended metaphor throughout the poem comparing a poet to an acrobat. And extended metaphor is the use of a single metaphor or analogy at length in a work of literature. In the end the theme we came up with was ‘Being creative is not as easy as it seems to be.’
