Today we were introduced to Emily Dickinson and her common style in her poems. We read ‘I’m nobody! Who are you?’ and analyzed the text.

(8/29)

In American lit the class presented their jam board and gave a summary on their origin myth. All of their stories were creative and fun. A common thing between every myth was the creation of earth or ‘another’ earth.

In American lit I finally came up with a concept I want for my origin myth. I had writers block for a couple of days but using the cluster method he introduced to the class really helped. I’m close to actually start writing and I’m excited to see how my origin myth turns out.

American lit. (08/24/23)

Today in American lit. I received a writing assignment and the rubric. For the assignment you have to create and write an origin myth. I read the ‘example’ origin myth he gave us to get some ideas flowing in my head.

Today we went over the questions of a poem we read yesterday. The poem was The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston Hughes. The poem was mainly about the history of black people. The writer used personification and simile in his writing. He also used repetition to emphasize the long history of black people and compares it to ancient rivers.

Introduction

My name is Olivia Smarr and I’m class of 2024. My goal for this semester is to pass this course. I’m looking forward to dissecting  more American literature to truly understand it. I’m not the biggest fan of reading but I enjoy writing, I hope to learn to enjoy reading.
